It's like The Annexe but in Africa!

Julie shows David & Faye the door! "Don't come back without some sun!"

David Cruikshank, a Partick Community Association Board member, and Faye Suso, Co-ordinator for The People's Centre for Learning and Empowering based in The Gambia, left for Serrekunda on a dreery Partick afternoon to take part in a study visit from 18th January to 1st February 2008.

The pair visited The Annexe's twin centre to forge new links and explore future development ideas between our two great projects! David has returned with some very good ideas of how the community of Partick can support the Serrekunda community.

Why do we know Faye?

Faye Suso, co-ordinator for The People's Centre has almost completed a Community Education degree at Strathclyde University and was a volunteer with The Annexe during his course placement.

What have we achieved already?

Unity, particularly around literacy and health improvement. Partick Community Association currently supports The People's Centre by sponsoring their ICT Worker. We meet the cost of his annual salary and some  running costs totalling £500 per year. We are also continuously fundraing to sponsor additional projects. The Studio youth arts & design project sold their creations at the local Farmers Market to raise funds and proceeds from the sale of our Walking Booklet are also donated. Individual donations have also been made by local residents, if you would like to donate please contact us.

Total raised so far £2,500!

Have you any old mobile phones, unwanted football tops?

Faye will be returning to Serrekunda this summer with a  container of donated goods that will help the community of Serrekunda. If you would like to donate please contact us.
